Som i nästa sekund kopplar på pulkan bakom skotern och drar med sig familjen ut på en långstyrning eller grillsväng, och visst är det härligt att kunna välja mellan vanlig boggie eller monorail. Nu har Arctic Cat verkligen gett sina konsumenter fler valmöjligheter.

Med tre klick på dämparen ändrar man mellan soft, medium eller hard, detta på några få sekunder. Den bakre boggiedämparen har även en lock-funktion. Den, likt en kopplad boggie, håller emot svingen så att skidorna får bättre kontakt med marken. På så sätt blir det enklare att hålla ner gasreglaget under sin färd upp för branta stigningar. Skulle man mot förmodan köra på något så har stötdämparen en backventil för att inte explodera i låst läge. Otroligt effektivt att vrida om på lock när det kommer till branta klättringar.Körmässigt hittar vi hem väldigt snabbt på Arctic Cat M 8000 Mountain Cat. Den hittar inte på några dumheter utan man finner sig ganska direkt bakom spakarna. Ute i snön är den busig, rapp och följsam. Fjolårets uppdatering av motorn för att hålla jämna steg med sina konkurrenters mera kubikstinna motorer finns tyvärr inte i denna. Men gassvaret och motorgången är tillräcklig.

Vi tar en närmare titt på framvagnen. Arctic cat M 8000 Mountain Cat har en justerbar framvagn, som i sitt smalaste läge mäter in på 35,5 tum och i sitt bredaste 37,5 tum. Den är inställd på smalaste läget då vi testar den. Detta gör den även smalast i klassen. Maskinen känns från början lite vinglig, vilket lovar gott. Smidighet går många gånger hand i hand med en ”vinglig” maskin och här är det upp till piloten att lära sig handskas med balansen. Stötdämparna som sitter runt om är de välbeprövade Fox Qs3:orna. Även nu får vi imponeras över Atac fjärdingen när vi gräver oss fram på rullen i den djupa snön och samtidigt klickar i “firm”. Maskinen kliver upp på snön och flyter ovanpå istället för att leta sig ner till botten. Och allt detta på ett ögonblick! Att ha justeringen på styret gör att man verkligen använder möjligheterna till det när det är så busenkelt att byta mellan de olika lägena. Efter julstöket var över fick vi tillslut nog med snö för Mountain Caten att göra debut. Det blir en lugnare färd för att undvika de klassiska försäsongskadorna med krokiga a-armar och övriga skavanker. Vi bränner av några inkörningsmil för maskin och förare efter leden och passar även på att testa foxarna med Atac fjädringens färdigheter. Vilken skillnad en riktig dämparsetup gör! Maskinen känns pålitlig och ligger trots sin smala framvagn på 35,5 tum stadigt på den fina leden. Man kan tänka att det kanske borde vara lite vingligt med monorailen men det är inget jag kände av under denna tur. Kan det förutom dämparna vara Powerclaw mattan med 66 mm kammar som hjälper till och ändå ger ett bra bett i snön?

Något annat vi märker när vi svischar fram efter leden är att man sitter väldigt bekvämt på dynan men det är nog tyvärr enda fördelen med den. Ja för dynan är av modell större, både hög och lång vilket gör att när man ex gör en pudersväng eller ska luta sig från sida till sida så trycks benen ut av den höga dynan och man blir begränsad i sin rörlighet samt tappar fotfästet på fotsteget.Så nu är det bara att lägga på körtimmarna så våran Mountain Cat får visa upp sin fulla potential och vi får testa på hur alla dessa egenskaper ter sig i skogsterräng, drivor, olika fören och förhållanden. Säsongen är igång!

Vi viker av leden och letar oss ut i det nyfallna pudret, fjäderlätt och gnistrande. Det räcker att trycka med fötterna på fotstegen så surfar du fram och maskinen känns väldigt lättkörd. Det finns risk att överarbeta skotern i sidled innan man vant sig vid monorailens smidiga egenskaper.
