They say the eyes are the windows to the soul, so it only makes sense that our eyebrows are on point too. Our eyebrows are a defining facial feature which frame and balance out our face. It’s no wonder makeup artistes and beauty gurus often emphasise the need for properly-drawn and well-shaped brows.
Instead, Asian girls look best with softer-shaped eyebrows, which are also tinted one or two shades lighter than their hair colour. Just take a look at some prominent female Asian celebrities who have their eyebrows drawn to perfection by their makeup artistes. Since the vast majority of us girls are unable to afford our own personal makeup artistes, the next best alternative is to take a look through our gallery for some eyebrow inspiration. While we’re often encouraged to use the pencil trick to find the right brow shape, it might not be the most suitable method for Asian faces. This pencil trick tends to result in strongly arched brows, which could look too harsh on Asians because we often do not have deep-set eyes.

”You want more arch as you become older. It helps you to open your eyes and tighten up your other face muscles. Additionally, as you age, you want your brows to have more definition. Definition is frequently described as being slightly richer, darker, or more distinct. Your brows can help define you as you start to seem a little more washed out, just like blush can help revive the vibrancy of an older face. As you age, switch to ashier tones for your brow filler because they tend to seem a little more natural.” Participants rated the high contrast face as looking younger than the low contrast face more than 80% of the time.
Have people ever thought you were older than you actually are? You may enjoy partaking in things that are unmistakably aunt-related, but you most definitely don’t look like one, so we’re betting that smacked you right in the ego!Look closely at your brows if you’re wondering why certain individuals keep adding years to your age. Dark brows were shown to make a person look younger in a study that was published in the journal Frontiers in Psychology because humans appear to (subconsciously) correlate distinct contrasts in facial features with youth. Given that eyebrows do tend to pale with age, that makes sense. However, there are still some other aspects of your brows that you could wish to research. Fortunately, you can quickly fix your eyebrow problems with makeup.

There is hope for you despite your eyebrow mistake if you forcibly plucked your eyebrows into tiny arches in the 1990s. The founder of The BrowGal and celebrity brow expert Tonya Crooks told Byrdie that there are numerous choices available now for thickening brows. ”There are cosmetics that provide the appearance of bigger, fuller brows as well as restorative solutions that aid to restore damaged eyebrows.”
According to a recent study, as people age, facial characteristics like the lips and eyebrows become less noticeable. The authors assert that as a result, individuals consider faces with greater contrast to be younger.

What are the best eyebrows for Asians?
Instead, Asian girls look best with softer-shaped eyebrows, which are also tinted one or two shades lighter than their hair colour. Just take a look at some prominent female Asian celebrities who have their eyebrows drawn to perfection by their makeup artistes.
As you get older, not only can your eyebrows thin out and recede, but also, as celebrity brow expert Joey Healy revealed to Coveteur, brow hairs can become ”white or grey,” much like the hairs on your head. This is a natural part of the ageing process. He followed by noting, ”Also, as the hair loses its colour, it might also lose its lubricating oils, which will cause it to become rougher.” It’s common knowledge that having grey hair is a sign of advancing age, although this has nothing to do with the colour or texture of the hair.As you reach your fifties and beyond, you should continue to redefine your arches. Healy added to the article, ”The older you become, the more arch you want.” It combats slackness in other face muscles and opens your eyes. Remember that well-groomed eyebrows may go a long way; several celebrities, including Lady Gaga and Drew Barrymore, have changed their eyebrows to alter their entire appearance.

Any other slightly spooky silhouette, such as tadpole-shaped brows, can make you appear perpetually bewildered and draw attention away from your eyes. By conditioning the follicles, serums like Nouveau Lash & Brow Conditioning Serum can definitely help if you need to regrow eyebrow hairs or thicken what you already have. After you have a natural base for your brows, see a professional about the ideal shape and application technique. The same thing can happen to your eyebrow hair as it gets older, which can make you look more older than you really are. You may hide this by using brow powder to fill in any sparse areas and concentrating on giving your brows their full appearance again.

We probably shouldn’t have asked a brow specialist if eyebrows truly do make a difference to a person’s face, but we did. As expected, she answered, ”Absolutely 100% YES!” Crooks used a picture that you may have seen online to support her argument. ”A week ago, a friend posted a lovely image of Anne Hathaway on Facebook besides a version of the same image without eyebrows. The difference is startling, says Crooks (and we agree). A fantastic, well-shaped brow also gives off a confident appearance and effectively balances the face, according to Crooks.
The market for eyebrow products has grown by £6.5 million, demonstrating the undeniable success of the brow. Once every two weeks, the occasional stray hair would need to be plucked off to maintain eyebrows. If you do it incorrectly, you could come off seeming older than you are. According to Crooks, a beautiful, well-shaped brow also exudes confidence and successfully balances the face. The quality of the hair also starts to decline as time goes on.Since you already have the most coveted face shape, a soft brow with a shallow arch is most flattering; it will maintain the natural balance of your face. Older women had less facial contrast than younger women did. As women aged, the difference mostly vanished from the brow and mouth region. We inform you of some frequent brow blunders you can be making when grooming and preserving your brows. Additionally, how to correct them so that you never again develop brow-don’ts In fact, according to the Guardian, the market for eyebrow products has increased by £6.5 million, proving that eyebrows are unquestionably big business. While it’s well known that properly groomed eyebrows can draw attention to your face, untidy eyebrows are a major problem. In fact, if you do it wrong, you may even end up looking older than you actually are, which is something that very few of us would enjoy!Less is more when it comes to your brows, as it true with so many other cosmetics. Going too black and thick with your brow filler can appear stern and forceful. When applying any colour to your brows, use light, feathery strokes to avoid overdoing it. By doing this, you may build up the intensity very gradually while moving away from the mirror to check your progress. Should you decide to cut into the natural arch of your brows, you run the risk of ending up with a look that is jagged, uneven, and unbalanced. Instead of clipping the borders of the hair, sweep the hair upwards and use a small pair of scissors designed specifically for trimming eyebrow hair to trim the brow hairs that stick out. Having sparse, thin brows will make you look older. If you want a different look, brow cosmetics can be the way to go. A product that is excessively dark, however, should be avoided as it can also make you look older. Additionally, you should avoid over-defining your brows ” The biggest error I saw is people applying their eyebrow creams too heavily ”Registered nurse Megan Studabaker, who runs Finespun Brow Design in Scottsdale, Arizona, offered her opinion to Self. Instead of just covering up with powder, ”I suggest to apply products in hair-like strokes since it often becomes smeared and untidy, which isn’t creating the professional appearance you are trying to get.”We’re here to tell you that your eyebrows might be making you look older, just in case we haven’t emphasised the significance of eyebrows enough. We heard rumours about this cunning cause of ageing and made the decision that we had to investigate this unsavoury rumour. In order to find out what eyebrows actually do for your face, we turned to Tonya Crooks. Up until a few years ago, most of us paid little attention to our eyebrows, but that has all changed. There are now countless brow pencils, kits, and hair removal techniques to select from, but maintaining eyebrows used to simply involve plucking the occasional stray hair out once every two weeks.

During the acceptance speech at the Golden Globes in 2020, actor Stellan Skarsgard joked that his eyebrows were the reason his career hadn’t progressed as quickly as it could have. ”Stellan, I’ve been in so many movies with you, but I can’t place your face in my head!’ Milos Forman told me that a number of years ago, and I owe him a debt of gratitude. And I finally put two and two together and understood it was because I lacked eyebrows. Nobody can tell if I’m angry or shocked by my expression, ”Skarsgård stated. ”For this film [Chernobyl], Daniel Parker made a pair of eyebrows for me,” he remarked, ending his idea by holding up his Golden Globe. ”For this film, Daniel Parker made a couple of eyebrows for me.”
A brow that leans down into your earlobes can make your face look droopy and give off an unhappy vibe. Short, feathery hair-like strokes beginning at the base of your brow should be used to initially define the ends of your brows in order to correct this issue. Then, using an eyebrow powder to complete the contour, work backwards towards the bridge of the nose (for a more natural finish). Arched eyebrows frame your face properly and aid in enlarging your eyes. You’ll come off as stern and severe if the arches are too pointed and angular.

Age-related bald patches are a solid symptom. You can be proudly displaying a set of well-groomed brows when you discover that they are not as dense as you would like them to be. Be extremely delicate when filling in your brows so as not to make things worse. The best option is to lightly dab brow powder onto the exposed regions. Avoid risking tearing off any strands by using moderate pressure. The look we create looks like real hair, excellent for enhancing faded, patchy and thin eyebrows, or creating those designer brows you’ve always wanted. There is definitely nothing wrong with growing grey, but sadly, for some of us, this means that our eyebrows seem to fade away completely, causing our faces to lose the definition that was previously provided by the brows.

There are products for restoring damaged brows or giving the appearance of thicker brows. To increase the color’s intensity to the desired level, swipe it on more than once. Like the hairs on your head, brow hairs can turn ”white or grey” as you age. As a result, our eyebrows appear to entirely disappear, making our features appear less defined. If you want a quick and easy solution, schedule a brow tint appointment at your local salon.According to the brow expert Anastasia Soare, owner of Anastasia Beverly Hills Salon, your brows may get ”unruly” as you get older in addition to changing colour, becoming coarser, and becoming thinner as you get older. This information was provided to Prevention. It is not recommended, and it is a huge eyebrow mistake, to let your stray grey hairs do their own thing, especially if you do not want to appear older than you are. When chatting to Coveteur, Healy offered the following piece of advice: ”Consider tinting the grey out of your brow, should it come in.” ”Also, invest in a quality set of scissors, such as the Joey Healy Precision Brow Scissor, so that you may trim your brows and get rid of those long hairs,” Hold the handle of a make-up brush or a comb with a pointed handle up to the highest point of your nostril, then follow it up to your brow. This will help you determine how long your brow hairs should be. This point should be the beginning of your brow. Hold the handle in one hand and direct it to the side of your nose while angling it such that it cuts through your pupil. This will help you discover your arch. The next step is to slide the handle to the side of your nose, and then angle it such that it reaches the outer corner of your eye. This will tell you where the arch of your brow should terminate. In the study, which was published in the journal Frontiers in Psychology, researchers looked at pictures of 763 women without makeup and of different skin tones who were between the ages of 20 and 80. A computer software examined the images for facial contrast, which is a measurement of how much the eyes, lips, and brows stand out from the surrounding skin due to changes in colour, lightness, or darkness. No, we have not forgotten about the first issue with light arches, which was that they made you look older. Fixing it is simple given that there is no modification of the shape required. Utilizing a brow crayon is a more cost-effective alternative than going to a salon and having your brows coloured professionally, which is an option that is available to you. It’s just going to last for a short while, but you shape your brows every day so who cares? You can build up the colour by swiping it on multiple times to achieve the desired level of intensity. As you age, Anastasia Soare, owner of Anastasia Beverly Hills Salon, warns that your brows may become ”unruly.” Get rid of those lengthy hairs by investing in a good pair of scissors, like the Joey Healy Precision Brow Scissor. If grey begins to appear on your brow, think about tinting it. Take a comb or cosmetic brush handle and raise it to your nostril’s highest point. Once you have an idea of how long your brow hairs should be, follow it up to your brow. Consult a professional for advice on the best shape and application method once you have a natural basis for your brows.

You risk having a jagged, uneven, and imbalanced appearance if you trim your brows’ natural arch. Instead of clipping the margins, sweep the hair upwards and snip the brow hairs that protrude using a tiny pair of scissors designed specifically for this purpose.
Try making your brows straight for a pleasing fix. The absence of arches gives your features a youthful, doll-like stance, a style made popular by Korean women. (Consider the eyebrows you had before you used tweezers to shape them.) Draw a straight line above and under your brows with a brow pencil, conceal your brow arches with concealer, and then sparingly fill them in. Use brow gel to set your brows. Hold a makeup brush handle or a comb with a pointed handle up to the highest point of your nostril, then follow it up to your brow to get a sense of how long your brow hairs should be. Your eyebrow should start here. Hold the handle so it cuts across your pupil and point it to the side of your nose to locate your arch. Then, to establish where your brow should terminate, move the handle to the side of your nose and slant it to reach the outside corner of your eye. According to Hibba Kapil, brow specialist and owner of Hibba NYC, routinely plucking one’s eyebrows every day might result in major overplucking. She advises shaping your brows either weekly or every other week because of this. Even if you’ve taken care to avoid over-plucking, your aged brows may soon discover that weekly or biweekly plucking is too much for them to manage. According to brow expert Joey Healy, ”your brows naturally get a little patchier as you age.” This contrast effect will not come as a surprise to anyone who has ever used an Instagram filter on a selfie. But the findings may also help explain why people regularly wear make-makeup to look younger.

The look we create looks like real hair, excellent for enhancing faded, patchy and thin eyebrows, or creating those designer brows you’ve always wanted. As you age, it’s not a bad idea to evaluate the condition of your arches, just as you should pay close attention to the tails of your eyebrows. Unfortunately, neglecting your eyebrow arches is a mistake that will make you appear older. This is particularly true as you leave your 30s. According to celebrity brow expert Joey Healy, ”in your forties, it’s more about the arch.” ”Make sure you have a great, defined arch situated two-thirds of the way out — never in the centre,” the author advised. ”You might also want to concentrate on using pencils rather than powders because pencils can give you more definition and allow you to make tighter perimeter linework.”

What is the Korean eyebrow standard?
In Korea, however, soft and straight eyebrows are preferred because they give the face a childlike innocence. As the majority of Asians are not born with arched brows, sticking to a straight brow shape appears more natural and less fierce.
The fronts of your brows, which I adoringly refer to as ”sprouts,” likewise begin to regress as time passes. They can turn grey or white. Additionally, as the hair ages, it may also lose its lubricating oils, which causes it to become coarser. Your brows will inevitably become a little patchier as you age. Additionally, the eye may appear to be drooping as a result of the tail’s tendency to drop. Unfortunately, this also takes place in an uneven manner. Although the tail does descend, some people believe it’s due of the side you sleep on. Basically, everything moves south, which is the only direction that matters. As more time passes, the quality of the hair also begins to deteriorate.

We warn you about several grooming mistakes you could make with your brows. Today, there are various solutions for thickening brows. As a general rule, always use short, feathery strokes so you can gradually build up the colour. You run the danger of appearing jagged, uneven, and imbalanced if you choose to cut into the natural arch of your brows. It’s less expensive to use a brow crayon than to have your brows professionally coloured.
Sometimes less is more when it comes to your brows. Too dark and thick, overly drawn brows can give off a harsh, unnatural appearance. Always use short, feathery strokes as a general rule so you can gradually build up the colour. To make sure you haven’t overdone it, it is also a good idea to walk back and away from the mirror. If you have black brows and an olive skin tone then darker colours will suit best. But if you want something different, you could try an auburn/warm tinged one like Lush has ’brun’ henna. Lighter highlights could work.

Microblading is an option for those who want a solution that is long-lasting. This procedure is very similar to tattooing an eyeliner, except instead of using a thick microblade pen, a very fine microblade pen is used to create a natural-looking brow build-up that can last for up to three years. It’s hilarious because it could very well be true. It’s not simply getting older that can cause your eyebrows to become grey or even white, like the actor who won an award for it. According to Eliza Petrescu, brow expert and proprietor of Eliza’s Eyes in New York City, who was interviewed by Prevention regarding this topic, ”grey or white brows disappear completely from a distance, which makes your features look imbalanced.” ”Even if the hair on your head is silver or grey hair, I suggest dying your brows a light brown,” she continued. ”It will make them look more natural.” ”It will create a frame for your eyes, which will enhance your features and give you the appearance of being younger.”Make an appointment at your neighbourhood salon for a brow tint if you’re looking for a quick and simple approach to counteract those colourless hairs. The operation won’t take more than a few minutes, but the results will blow your mind.Applying brow gel for more contrast if your brows are thinning might not be sufficient to stop them from making you look older. Your eyebrow tails may require more care because brows also regress with age. According to Eliza Petrescu, brow specialist and proprietor of Eliza’s Eyes in New York City, ”the tail of the brow is the area that sets off the arch, which makes eyes look youthful and seductive.” ”Without it, eyes appear weary and droopy.”

Your eyebrows and hair must complement one another to create a coherent look. You wouldn’t want bleached blonde eyebrows, for example, if you have jet-black hair. Having said that, it will appear odd if your hair and eyebrows are same. Consider purchasing a brow product that is one or two shades lighter than the colour of your hair. It appears less harsh and more natural in this manner.
The authors can’t be certain that cosmetically darkening features would have the same anti-aging effects as those seen in the study because the study didn’t use makeup. But the way we altered the features in the images was quite comparable to what you’d do with make-up, and Richard Russell, a co-author and associate professor of psychology at Gettysburg College, is shocked if you couldn’t obtain similar effects. We are aware that as we age, our lips become less red and our eyebrows become lighter, for example. If you so desired, you might conceal these changes with makeup.

You shouldn’t begin with brow gel or powder to prevent that appearance. According to celebrity brow expert Joey Healy, who spoke to Man Repeller, ”a pencil is the way to go if you have a hole, a gap, a scar, or if you need to physically extend a tail.” He said to the publication, ”Powder is more boosting, whereas the pencil is more remedial.”Rachael Bebe is a specialist in natural effect eyebrows, eyebrow microblading, feathering or hair stroke eyebrow tattooing & based in Mt Eliza, Victoria. Obviously, not all of us are endowed with the ideal base for developing a robust pair of eyebrows, but that shouldn’t stop you from trying! There is still a chance for you even if you have a troubled past with the tweezers or if your eyebrows just naturally tend to be on the sparser side. According to Crooks, ”there are so many different alternatives for plumping up the brows in today’s society.” ”There are restorative products that help to repair damaged eyebrows or, in addition, a variety of make-makeup products that create the illusion of thicker, fuller brows.” or ”Eyebrow tattoos.” ”There are restorative products that help to repair damaged eyebrows or, in addition, a variety of make-makeup products that create the illusion of thicker Study shows women with thick eyebrows may be more attractive to men. Women typically tweeze and wax their eyebrows, but a 2019 study conducted by two Oakland professors found that men are more attracted to women with thicker eyebrows.Ramy Rafni, a celebrity brow expert, advises taking a three-month hiatus from tweezing altogether, even though you can conceal sparse brows with makeup. No hairs at all should be plucked, especially at the inner corners of the brows, he told AARP. Take a decent multivitamin, add biotin and zinc, and apply a protein moisturiser serum formulated to promote hair development. While some of us notice our brows getting thinner as we get older, for others, brow hairs might get longer and courser, giving the appearance of droopy eyelids and smaller eyes. To shape your brows into attractive arches, either tweeze at home or go to a service.

When it came to drawing hairlike strokes, the Charlotte Tilbury Brow Cheat Pencil outperformed all the brow pencils we tested. The pointed, slightly angled tip made it easy to draw on the tiniest hairs, and the small spoolie allowed us to smooth everything out afterwards. The end result had a similar effect to microblading — at a fraction of the cost.

Sewell agrees, sharing that to achieve natural-looking brow strokes, follow the direction that your hairs grow in. ”Start at the root of your brow with a light, flicking motion in the direction of the growth,” she says.

If you’re just beginning your brow journey, we recommend choosing a pencil that can sculpt, define, and fill in your brows with minimal effort. Through our testing, we found this Kosas pick to be the most user-friendly, with its multipurpose triangle-shaped tip.Anastasia Soare knows brows. Aside from being responsible for JLo’s snatched eyebrows, she also is the mastermind behind her eponymous brand, Anastasia Beverly Hills. In our lab test, we tried two of the brand’s best-selling brow pencils, but the Brow Definer reigned supreme.

Do darker eyebrows look better?
Dark brows were shown to make a person look younger in a study that was published in the journal Frontiers in Psychology because humans appear to (subconsciously) correlate distinct contrasts in facial features with youth. Given that eyebrows do tend to pale with age, that makes sense.
Aside from adding the ideal amount of pigment, the formula also helps condition and promote brow growth over time thanks to nourishing grapeseed oil and vitamin E. Truthfully, it was difficult to pinpoint a con, we wish the color range was more expansive. With only five shades to choose from, many people will have to miss out on this stellar product.

Caitlyn Martyn is a commerce writer for InStyle, where she covers skincare, makeup, and fashion. With expert insight from a makeup artist and a brow expert, she compiled insights from our in-house testers, poured over product specifications and rounded up our top picks for this story. Caitlyn has experience researching, testing and writing about beauty products. She has tried tons of different brow pencils from several of the above brands, including Charlotte Tilbury, Kosas, NYX and L’Oréal Paris.
The dual-ended pencil, which featured a thicker angled tip and a fluffy blending brush, efficiently filled in our brows, covering sparse spots for more uniform arches. Plus, once the formula set our brows looked perfect for the entire day — we didn’t experience any smudging, and our eyebrows still looked fresh by the time we were ready to take our makeup off.If you have thick brows, you may not need a ton of help, but having a trusty brow pencil on hand to even out your arches can be a total game changer. During our lab test, we found that the Fill & Fluff Eyebrow Pencil Pomade from NYX worked like a charm to fill in the gaps between our thick brow hairs.

Along with the versatile design, we were equally impressed by the shade range. With 10 colors, including an often overlooked gray hue, we’re confident that most people would be able to find the perfect match. Though, we did notice that the lighter colors didn’t have the best pigment payoff. Shades like Honey Blonde and Taupe needed to be applied with extra pressure to get our desired end look.
The thick side of the pencil filled in our bald spots, while the thin side helped to sculpt our arches and add feathered strokes for fuller defined brows. Plus, the built-in spoolie brush blended everything for cohesive, snatched brows. Aside from the long-lasting formula, we appreciated the pencil’s geometric shape, which we found to be extremely ergonomic. It fit beautifully in our hands and gave us more control to apply the product exactly where we wanted to. It did take some time to find the right application pressure, as the pencil was extremely pigmented, but once we went in with a light hand, we were extremely happy with the outcome. With such a precise tip, we worried that the formula would snap during application. One stroke proved otherwise: It glided across our brows and left a rich yet natural looking pigment without any mishaps. When not in use, though, we do suggest retracting the tip back into the pencil. This protects the formula and prevents it from potentially falling out.We have particularly thick brows with a few sparse spots, and this pencil quickly evened out our arches, making them look fuller. For such an affordable pick, we were pleasantly surprised by the color payoff, too. We only needed to apply slight pressure while filling out our brows to get a rich pigment. The handy spoolie on the other side made it easy to diffuse the color, so our brows looked defined but still natural. After taking one look at the color options, we noticed that the range skewed dark, with the blonde hue looking more like an ashy brown. Huda Beauty seems to be constantly innovating their products, so we hope that they add more lighter options soon. Did you notice the InStyle Picks seal of approval at the top of this story? That means our team of testers has reviewed every product on this list using a unique methodology to ensure it’s really worth your time, money, and attention. We may get samples for free to try but we never promise positive (or any!) coverage in exchange. Put simply: InStyle picks are products we love, and we’ve put them to the test to be sure you will too.”You only need a little bit of product to make short strokes, just in the areas that need it most,” Healy advises. ”Use a spoolie afterwards to generously blend and buff that color into the brow.”

Between the price point (under $5!) and the creamy smudge-proof formula, this budget eyebrow pencil swfitly earned top marks during our test. The dual-ended precision liner and spoolie duo allowed us to tame, shape, and define our brows in seconds.
How many products do you use to define your eyebrows? I use three: A powder, eyebrow gel, and a spoolie to blend it all together. That may seem like a lot, but there are countless other arch-enhancing products, ranging from gels and pomades to pencils.Healy recommends taking a picture of your face to objectively see where you’re starting. ”I like to work on the better brow first, and then use that as a guideline for the brow that is less balanced,” he says. ”If one tail is a little short, you can lengthen it. If one peak is a little flat, you give it more of a point.” If you want to lengthen the tail of your brows, create more of a peak in your arch, or fill in a sparse spot, New York City-based celebrity brow artist Joey Healy says that the easiest, most effective product to use is an eyebrow pencil. That said, because of the larger tip, we had a difficult time creating hair-like strokes. Ultimately, we consider this a stellar pick for thicker brows that need a little extra oomph, but thin brows should opt for something a bit more precise.

Oftentimes, however, achieving a perfectly symmetrical look is unrealistic. ”I actually prefer for brows not to be totally symmetrical as it accentuates each person’s natural beauty,” Sewell says. ”I do my brows looking at a far away mirror to make sure they complement each other. They don’t need to be perfectly alike.”
While many of the eyebrow pencils we tested feature waterproof formulas, many lack the longevity of this pick from Huda Beauty. After our lab test we wore this to HIIT workouts and on triple digit summer days; through it all our brows stayed pristine.

What do Koreans use on their eyebrows?
Tints. Brow tints are very popular in Korea, since it’s one of the easiest and longest lasting ways to get a soft but lush looking brow. Missha Seven Days Tinted Eyebrow looks a lot like a thin marker with its pointy tip, but it’s filled with tint instead of ink.
L’Oréal Paris consistently churns out phenomenal makeup products at affordable prices, yet one of the most underrated is the Brow Stylist Definer. We found that the ultra-fine tip — which is 0.5 millimeters to be exact — was the ideal size for replicating the look of tiny brow hairs. The slim pencil also fit nicely between our fingers, giving us plenty of control to define and fill in our brows. To avoid breakage and achieve a more precise look, consider a retractable pencil with a fine tip. ”Big chunky pencils or ones that need to be sharpened can be inconsistent,” Healy says. ”It’s easier to manipulate a pencil with a retractable tip.” And, according to Professional makeup artist Kelli Anne Sewell, pencils with slanted tips offer more versatility (think: filling in and drawing on hairs) than slimmer counterparts. We particularly like Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer Triangular Brow Pencil for its slanted tip that is still precise enough to create hair like strokes as well as define the arches. While not as thin as the Brow Wiz, we found that the slanted triangular tip of this pencil was extremely versatile. Beyond seamlessly drawing on soft, hairlike strokes, we were also able to use this to shade in sparse areas of our brows with minimal effort. Because of the duality, we consider this pencil ideal for all types of brows, including thin and patchy arches. ”Find a brow pencil that matches the tone of your hair, whether it be warm, neutral or cool.” Sewell explains. Unless you’re a redhead, pencils with cool undertones are likely your best bet. ”Cool undertones help make the brow look more natural since it mimics the hairs’ true shadow.” According to Healy, it’s best to match your brow pencil shade with your eyebrow color, not your hair color. ”For example, a lot of blondes who are very blonde have darker brows,” he explains. ”In this case, match the brow pencil to the dark brow color instead of the golden blonde hair color.” This makes for a more cohesive look. Kosas Brow Pop Clean Dual-Action Defining Brow Pencil offers 10 shades ranging from light blondes and grays to a true black.

Despite the slim design, this pencil packed on the pigment. When we initially filled in our brows the color was way too dark, but going in with a lighter hand remedied the issue, and the handy spoolie on the other side seamlessly blended the color for an overall natural look.

If you’re between two colors, Healy suggests going with the slightly lighter one. ”You don’t want your brows to be too dark. If anything, I’d rather see a brow that’s unfilled than a brow that is way too dark because it looks inauthentic,” he says.
When you think of what’s popular in brows right now in North America, the overly plucked, anorexic brow is about as fashionable as neon crocs. The look now is fuller looking brows following an overall body hair positive acceptance movement. In Korea, a similarly thick yet very groomed brow is what you’ll generally see. The biggest differences between the two styles are shape and harshness. In Western beauty, a sharp as a whip, ultra-defined dramatic brow (Instabrows!) seems to be the highest coveted. Meanwhile in Korea, a softer, defined but definitely diffused and flatter brow is the gold standard. You know this wouldn’t be K-beauty story without at least one cushion, right? Laneige Eyebrow Cushion-cara is literally a cushion for your brows. It’s a ”liquid to powder” formula that’s pretty neat actually. You use the angle brush to lay on the product and the spoolie to comb it through. (Both come with the cushion.) This is really good for when you’re looking for real definition, drawing individual hairlike strokes, and darker shading. This cushion comes the closest for me to the performance of Western products but with the added innovation of the Korean cushion delivery system — the perfect pairing for the perfect pair of brows!

So what are your top Korean brow products to achieve your perfect brows? Do you go with the more Western arched shape or the straighter Korean shape? Let’s talk about it!Etude House Color My Brows comes in five colors and is less than $6, so feel free to experiment without a lot of risk! They also offer a popular gel tint that made for some really fun-to-watch YouTube videos.

If you’re not brave enough for a peel-off gel tint, there’s always the much easier-to-work-with cream brows. 3CE Waterproof Cream Brow & Brow Mascara is a cool little product. You twist the bottom of the applicator to release some of the creamy gel tint, then you dip in your applicator that looks kinda like a baby mascara wand tip, and fill in your brows. I would suggest defining your brows a bit with a pencil to get your overall desired shape before this one as it’s not very good for sharp definition but great for overall tinting and filling.
Just like Western products, Korea has a whole lotta brow pencil options. I like the super sharp, thin-tipped Pony Effect Sharping Brow Definer for doing soft feather-like strokes. It’s especially handy for the inner brows where I want to define and draw hair-like lines. I also like using it on the outer brow to lengthen the brows without getting a harsh, fat line. It’s on the pricier side but still under $20 and performs very nicely. It’s been argued that eyebrows are one of your most important features. And given that big luscious brows are so sought after lately, it seems especially true. I mean, think about it: A pair of ratty or overly thin brows can absolutely wreck a look. So with all eyes on brows, let’s talk about Korean brow products.

Powder brows are probably the easiest, most foolproof way to fill and define your brows. You can easily tailor your results to either a soft or more severely defined look depending on how much powder you use and how light or heavy your hand is.

What eyebrow pencil does Kim Kardashian use?
Anastasia Beverly Hills Perfect Brow Pencil Anastasia Beverly Hills Perfect Brow Pencil Kim Kardashian’s tried-and-true Perfect Brow Pencil has a powder-like formula that fills in your brows like a pro. Plus, it’s dual-sided so that you can brush through your hairs with the spoolie, which gives your arches a more natural look.
Brow tints are very popular in Korea, since it’s one of the easiest and longest lasting ways to get a soft but lush looking brow. Missha Seven Days Tinted Eyebrow looks a lot like a thin marker with its pointy tip, but it’s filled with tint instead of ink. There’s also Etude House Tint My 4-Tip Brow, which has a 4-tipped notched applicator that deposits little wisps of tint for an even more natural look. (Read a full review and how-to here.) If you apply these tints before the rest of your skincare after washing your face, they will stain the skin beneath your brows and can last for literally days! Gel tints are a little tricker to work with and, depending on how thin your brows are, could take some getting used to. They go on kind of thick and gloopy but dry down into a little hard piece you then peel away to reveal a stain. Remember those Berrisom peel-off lip tints everyone was going nuts over some years back? It’s just like that but for your brows! But regardless of what look you’re going for, there are tons of great Korean brow products that can help get you there! There’s much to be discovered once you branch out from the confines of Dipbrow county.

There’s the higher end 3CE Eyebrow Kit, which is just under $25 and reminds me a lot of the Anastasia Brow Powder Duos in terms of performance. Tony Moly once again has an option for the budget conscious with Tony Moly Easy Touch Cake Eyebrow at $8.72. Even cheaper than that is Skinfood Choco Eyebrow Powder Cake at under $5!

You’ll want to choose eyebrow makeup that has undertones that match those of your hair color. This is especially the case for black hair—if your eyebrow pencil has warm undertones, it can make your brows appear orange. Simply put, if your hair color has cool undertones, your brow color should have cool undertones. For example, pair the L’Oréal Paris Excellence Créme Permanent Triple Protection Hair Color in Natural Black or a similar color with the L’Oréal Paris Brow Stylist Definer Waterproof Eyebrow Mechanical Pencil in Black.

Like we said, your eyebrows should be darker than your hair color—with one exception. Those with black hair may find a deep black color to appear too harsh, depending on the look they’re going for. If that’s something you can relate to, you may prefer a softer brow. This means you can use a soft black or dark brown pencil to shape your eyebrows, instead of a stark black. Try the L’Oréal Paris Unbelievabrow Longwear Waterproof Brow Gel in Dark Brunette.

Should your eyebrow pencil be lighter or darker than your hair?
We hate to break it to you, but if you thought that your brows should perfectly match your hair, you might want to think again. In fact, your eyebrows should actually be darker than your hair color—unless your tresses are pitch black.
We hate to break it to you, but if you thought that your brows should perfectly match your hair, you might want to think again. In fact, your eyebrows should actually be darker than your hair color—unless your tresses are pitch black. This is what looks the most natural. So, if your hair resembles the L’Oréal Paris Excellence Créme Permanent Triple Protection Hair Color in Medium Brown, use the L’Oréal Paris Brow Stylist Definer Waterproof Eyebrow Mechanical Pencil in Brunette to fill in your brows. That said, don’t go too dark though. Choose a color that’s only one shade darker than your mane to avoid a harsh contrast.

It’s understandable that if you have gray hair you might not want to sport gray eyebrows, and that’s okay. This light color likely won’t be as noticeable against your skin and will prevent you from getting that prominent brow look most of us desire. Instead, try an ashy blonde or brown pencil that’s one to two shades darker than your gray hair.If you’ve decided to go platinum, note that bleach blonde brows won’t look natural and will hardly be visible. Stick to a cool-toned, blonde eyebrow pencil, like the L’Oréal Paris Brow Stylist Definer Waterproof Eyebrow Mechanical Pencil in Light Blonde.

When it comes to doing your makeup, there are quite a few areas you need to master. After learning how to color match your foundation and how to highlight, how to do brows should be next. In the winter our faces are often covered by scarves and gaiters to defend against the cold (and now protective face masks), making our eyes a big focus. Since your eyebrows can totally change your beauty look by framing your features, getting your brows just right is important for making the best impression. If you’ve recently colored your hair, you might be struggling to match your brows with your new hair hue (especially if you don’t want them to give away your natural hair color). But it doesn’t have to be a difficult process to do with eyebrow makeup—you just have to know the right techniques. So check out five factors you need to consider for coordinating your hair color with your eyebrow color so that you can get it right every time.
If you’re a redhead, you may find that eyebrows identical to your hair color don’t look natural—and that’s normal! People with red hair may find that shades of brown are better suited for their brows. Just make sure to choose a pencil that has warm or cooper undertones to complement your mane. The L’Oréal Paris Brow Stylist Definer Waterproof Eyebrow Mechanical Pencil in Light Brunette is a great eyebrow color match for someone with auburn-colored hair.
