A trigger assembly retained by cross pins was included for easy disassembly. At the same time the gas system was redesigned for greater reliability. A slide stop was added as a separate lever allowing you to keep the bolt in the open position with or without the magazine inserted. According to Rousseau, the Mark II was originally qualified with a fully detachable magazine, but the change was never put into production. The BAR Mark II kept its original hinged type magazine found on the originals. The product development team on the Mark II included a young engineer named Joseph Rousseau. It was on a trip to Browning’s Morgan, Utah offices in 1988 that Rousseau fell in love with the Utah mountains and Utah hunting. Rousseau eventually moved his family to Utah and became the Vice President of Research and Development at Browning’s Morgan, Utah headquarters.The BAR made a strong comeback in World War II as the 1918A2. The newer version had a higher rate of fire (550 rounds per minute) and soon became an integral part of many American units on every front.

It is with sadness that we note the passing of Bruce Warren Browning, Grandson of John M. Browning and designer of the sporting BAR. He was born in 1928 in Liege, Belgium, while his father, Val Browning, worked perfecting several firearms at the famed FN factory. It took John M. Browning three months to design it. Browning took this project so seriously that his son Val personally did testing and training of the American troops. In its short time at the front the sound of a BAR became legendary. The BAR has evolved slightly for over four decades. Rifles before 1976 are usually called Type 1 rifles. Between 1976 and 1992 they are often called Type 2 rifles, but these rifles are very similar to the original models. 1993 marked the introduction of the Mark II versions, which are still in production today.

Not well known to many was a special project in the early 1970s to produce a BAR version just for law enforcement. This rifle featured a slightly modified, high capacity FN FAL magazine and was chambered in 308 Winchester. However, the rifle never made it into production.

What are the different versions of Browning bars?

Browning. His grandson, Bruce Browning, was the driving force behind today’s BAR. A large team of automatic firearms experts at the FN factory in Belgium also played a key role in its development. This group of FN automatic rifle designers, lead by Marcel Olinger, began serious work on the project code named ”Carbine 66,” with full-scale development and testing done throughout 1966 in preparation for an official 1967 product launch.Few people recall the pump action version of the BAR introduced in 1997 and called the BPR. It was offered in seven calibers in both long and short action versions, including magnums. It provided many of the distinctive advantages of the BAR Mark II, but in a version that could be used in states that were not enthusiastic about civilian ownership of autoloading centerfires. At the time Browning management was worried that this could become a trend, but luckily this did not happen. In 1999 another variation, the Acera, made its U.S. debut. Originally developed for the European market, this straight-pull bolt-action design based on the BAR hit the U.S. market with minimal fanfare. The BPR and Acera are among the rarest of BAR variations and highly sought-after by Browning collectors.

The Browning BAR is a gas-operated, semi-automatic rifle produced by the Browning Arms Company in Belgium. The rifle loads from a detachable box magazine. How many rounds is a Browning BAR good for?

The capacity of the magazine is four rounds (three rounds for Magnum calibers). Another cartridge may be carried in the chamber, providing a total rifle capacity of five rounds (four rounds for Magnum calibers.) To ready the rifle for loading, first insure that the cross-bolt safety is in the ON SAFE position.

The Lightweight Stalker model has an aluminum-alloy receiver. The stock is matte black synthetic instead of a walnut stock. The stalker is the only model to feature iron sights. The barrel is 20, 22, 23 or 24 in (510, 560, 580 or 610 mm) long.

The Safari model has an engraved steel receiver and walnut stock. The barrel is 22, 23 or 24 in (560, 580 or 610 mm) long, depending on the cartridge. The Safari is the only model with the Browning BOSS (Ballistic Optimizing Shooting System). The system reduces recoil and enhances accuracy with an adjustable muzzle brake and weight.

Det spelar ingen större roll vilken du väljer, men om du väljer en Milspec buffertub måste du välja en Milspec kolv och vice versa. Milspec är dock den vanligaste storleken, med störst utbud på kolvar.

Milspec och Commercial ser exakt likadana ut, men skiljer lite i diametern vilket gör att även kolvar finns i antingen Milspec eller Commercial för att passa respektive buffertub.

Utan pistolgrepp så ska det inte finnas hinder, men inte alltid så det funkar i praktiken.Vad gäller den försämrade precisionen med pistolgrepp så stämmer det också, pistolgreppet är bättre för snabba och instinktiva skott men du tappar stabiliteten i vapnet eftersom du förflyttar handen längre ned och inte har ett lika stabilt grepp.har nu snöat in lite på browning bar match i kal 308win ( tyvärr finns den ej i roligare kalibrar som 6.5 eller 7mm ) nu är den ju lite militärisk av sig men funnit en del plastfilm som har trämönster o de går ju o klistra på plastdelarna så den ser mer civil ut.är det någon här som har en dylik? Någon som har testat en sådan? Samt framförallt om någon har fått på en dämpsre på en browning bar och fått det att fungera? Annars finns rekylbromsar som fungerar på ett ypperligt tillfredsställande sätt med att hålla bort från skjutplatsen närmast en!

Ja, men det finns inget i sig som säger att ett fritt pistolgrepp inte är ”konventionellt” – det är en tillämpning av ”konventionella manuellt omladdade gevär” som att ett fritt pistolgrepp är No-No.

Förstår inte varför det görs skillnad på kolv o kolv. En sådan här borde väl isåfall vara oxå förbjuden, en förbannat ful kolv. Men förbannat skön o skjuta med.Tur att jag skiter i utseendet o vill åt funktionen om jag skulle köpa en sådan bössa. Ja dom har ju sin syn på saken o den tänker jag inte gå in närmre på då vi tycker olika. Jag betalar ju inte heller medlemsavgiften till deras organisation så.

Det finns en anledning till att man valt att utrusta vapen med denna typ av pistolgrepp, för det ger en helt annan känsla och vapenkontroll än det klassiska och således går funktion före utseende här,

Innebörden av detta är att PM inte meddelar tillstånd på vapen i det utseendet, inbyggda/slutna pistolgrepp är dock ok. Med PM:s rådande metodik är det otroligt ogenomtänkt att pröva att jaga med en halvis med annan kolv än den som tillstånd meddelades med, om det nu inte enbart är en färgfråga. ChristianDels för att jag skulle skämmas ögonen ur mig om jag dök upp med fritt pistolgrepp till en jakt samt att det faktiskt är olagligt att ha en kul-automat i det utförandet.

Nja NVV:s föreskrifter anger att för halvautomatiska gevär skall deras utseende vara efterliknande konventionella manuellt omladdade gevär, se 11 paragrafen, NFS 2002:18,

Som en ren reflektion, Ola mfl som huserar här inne avstyrker ansökningar på sagda vapen, dvs om det kommer till handläggarens kännedom att pangen har pistolgrepp är det no, no, bara så ni vet, förövrigt skjuter den så otroligt mycket sämre än motsvarande med normal stock, den blir rent som ett militärt närstridsvapen och det är en överhängande risk för avslag om det söks på den i nämnda skick,

Jo jo, givetvis är det så att ”skönheten ligger i betraktarens ögon”. Din nya kolv kan dock inte jämföras med denna enligt mig, här är ett onaturligt långt och smalt pistolgrepp på denna tycker jag – gräsligt ful helt enkelt.

Det var bland det fulaste jag någonsin skådat. Annars är det ett intressant koncept med fet pipa och ”taktisk” kolv på en bar. Dom kunde dock gett fan i det fula greppet i min mening.

OM med verklig betoning på om jag tänker köpa en dylik så skulle jag hellre köpa plastfilm som man lindar in kolven med som har trämönster istället för att få den o se lite mer civil utVill man veta vad NVV tycker så vill jag minnas att de nämner kolven i deras yttrande om Browning bar match. Kommer inte ihåg men har ett vagt minne av att NVV skiter i vilken kolv det är, jag kan dock ha fel. Men det kan vara intressant att kolla upp.

? Nej det är förvisso helt riktigt, man kan se det som att, 1 saken inte behandlas/beskrivs, 2 att som du anger att fristående pistolgrepp är konventionella, men bekymret därvid är att NVV och Christer Pettersson inte anser det, samt att PM definitivt inte gör det.

uppfyller inte geväret detta formkrav vid jakt är det troligen frågan om både jaktbrott och vapenbrott, har tillstånd erhållits på vapnet med fristående pistol grepp uppfyller det trots detta inte NVV s regler och man bör byta kolv för jakt, för att inte riskera något, tillståndsbärarens ansvar. ChristianOm du skaffar en kan jag rekommendera dig att justera gasblocket, finns en ställbar skruv där man kan justera hur mycket gas som skall släppas och den står allt för högt som standard, skruva ned trycket en bit så blir bössan mycket mjukare och behagligare att skjuta med. Som helt onödig fakta så hade jag gärna haft en dylik bössa fast med brownings tumhålskolv somm ska levereras ut snart. Träkolv så då ska väl inte fosiler kunna tycka illa om den trots halvauto funktionen tycker man ju. Den har sålts i ett antal exemplar i södra delarna av landet iaf så visst går det att få licens utan problem. James Cox, U.S. ArmyThe M1919A4 was a crew-served weapon, with two or more soldiers or Marines dividing the chore of carrying the 14-pound tripod and 31-pound gun. At 32 ½-pounds unloaded, calling the M1919A6 a light machine gun was a cruel joke to the poor grunt who had to carry it. The M1919A6 gunner was on his own, lugging around a weapon that weighed more than the M1919A4. While the Germans and British had LMGs 10 pounds lighter and five to 10 inches shorter, the poor G.I. was stuck with the Browning, mainly because the Army had failed to see the shortcomings of the BAR until it was too late to procure a true, effective LMG for service in World War II.Browning released numerous Variants of BAR MK throughout the rifle’s production period. Browning BAR MK3 DBM which stands for Browning Automatic Rifle Mark 3 with Detachable Box Magazine, is one variant of the BAR MK3 series that stands out. Most of the built components such as the gas autoloading system, trigger and safety are identical to those used on other MK3 variants.

Are all Browning bars made in Belgium?

Contrary to what some have said, the BAR has always been made in Belgium and assembled in Portugal from the beginning.

The rifle features a piston-driven autoloading system and a bolt with seven locking lugs. The receiver which is drilled and tapped for mounting purposes is a one-piece unit made of high-strength steel, except for some variations which feature an aluminum-alloy receiver. Primarily, the rifles were produced in Belgium only; however, that changed in 1977 when a part of the production was moved to Portugal. Today, most Browning firearms are either produced in Belgium, Portugal, Japan or the United States.

Although the rifle’s design has been altered, the receiver profile remained the same, meaning that the MK3 has scope mounts interchangeable with the first-generation BAR and BAR MK2. There is, however, a variant of BAR MK3 named BAR MK3 DBM which comes with a Picatinny rail; thus, it will not fit the same mounts.

In summary, Browning BAR and BAR MK2 are almost indistinguishable rifles featuring the same mounting surface; meaning that scope mounts that fit BAR will also fit BAR 2. Moreover, apart from the BAR MK3 DBM variant that features an integrated Picatinny rail, the mounting surface on other BAR MK3 models is the same as that on BAR and BAR MK2 which means that all three generations of Browning BAR are suitable for the same mounts.Browning BAR MK3 which stands for Browning Automatic Rifle Mark 3, was introduced in 2016. It differentiates from BAR MK2 in its stock and fore-end design. Like its predecessors, the MK3 consists of a short-stroke, piston-driven gas autoloading system and a bolt with seven rotating locking lugs that lock into the barrel. The magazine still sits in the hinged floorplate but can be removed. It has a capacity of three magnum or four standard cartridges.

BAR MK2 features a piston-driven gas autoloading system and a bolt with seven rotating locking lugs, making it structurally on par with the first-generation BAR. The rifle comes with a single-stage trigger and a detachable box magazine with a hinged floorplate. The mounting surface on BAR MK2 is identical to the one used on the BAR gen. 1, making the scope mounts interchangeable between the two.

Finally, it is worth noting that the BAR MK3 DBM comes with an integrated Picatinny rail instead of having the receiver drilled and tapped for mounting purposes. Therefore, it does not fit the same scope mounts as BAR, BAR MK2 and other BAR MK3 variants, unless they have a Picatinny base mounted.

What is the difference between Type 1 and Type 2 Browning bars?

Whereas the difference at the first glance is not too obvious when comparing BAR with the MK2, one can hardly confuse the latest BAR MK3 with its forerunners as it comes with some noticeable design changes.

There were two BAR versions: the models made before 1976 are called Type 1, and the model made between 1976 and 1992 are known as Type 2. No major distinctions can be noted between the models – different denomination mostly refers to the date of production. However, some minor differences in the design can be spotted in the bottom receiver area of the stocks. Type 1 has a narrower cut-out for the receiver and sits level with the receiver end of the stock, whereas Type 2 features a wider and shallower cut-out, thus the receiver end does not sit completely flush with the stock. Since the mounting surface is the same on both versions, BAR Type 1 and Type 2 are suitable for the same scope mounts.Compared to the MK2, BAR MK3 uses a lighter aluminum receiver which is visually changed for an updated, more refined look. Furthermore, various modifications can be noticed in the design of the receiver shape, fore-end, and buttstock. The wood on the fore-end blends in with the receiver housing and the buttstock uses softer, oval lines in comparison to the older models. Moreover, there is an upgraded Super Feather Trigger with a pull weight of approximately 1100 g (2.4 lbs.) and an Inflex recoil pad for a more comfortable shooting experience altogether.In 1966, Browning introduced a semi-automatic hunting and sporting rifle and decided to stick with the BAR acronym – still standing for ‘Browning Automatic Rifle’. Despite having nothing in common with the original, fully automatic BAR model, it continued the BAR branding and the company decided to keep the name up until today.

BAR was initially chambered for a .30-06 Springfield cartridge; however, in 1924 it was replaced by a .30 M1 Ball which offered better ballistic performance. In 1932, the M1918 was redesigned – the weight was significantly reduced. However, only six years later, in 1938 the designers decided to upgrade the rifle once again, incorporating a rate-reducer mechanism that offered two different rates of automatic fire. Additionally, the bipod was added to the muzzle at the end of the barrel.One dissimilarity is the magazine used on MK3 as it can hold up to ten rounds compared to other variants that usually have the capacity of three or four cartridges. In addition, the barrel length on BAR MK3 DBM is reduced to 457 mm (18-inch) and the rifle is only chambered for the .308 Winchester caliber. To all appearances, BAR and BAR MK2 are nearly identical rifles. No significant changes in design were made on MK2 except for a few structural improvements. The trigger system is simplified on MK2, held in by two pins which allow it to be fully removed for easier maintenance. Additionally, BAR Mark 2 comes with an added bolt locking lever, an improved gas pressure-operated system and a recoil limiter. In 1993, the BAR MK2, also known as Browning Automatic Rifle Mark 2, was introduced as the second generation of the BAR series. What is the rarest Browning?

The Hi-Power, John Moses Browning’s last design, was completed after his death at FN by Dieudonné Saive of FAL rifle fame and is the rarest of all Devels. A total of four are known to exist.

In the late 1970s, there were three serious fighting guns: the S&W 39, the M1911 and the Browning Hi-Power. While Devel is best known for its cut-down Smiths (a la the ASP), improvements Kelsey pioneered were later incorporated in all three pistols by their respective manufacturers. Along the way, he also patented the eight-round 1911 magazine and a gas-operated handgun, in addition to designing a fluted bullet that looks suspiciously like the inspiration for some of the current defensive projectiles. Unfortunately, he was a better designer than businessman, and the Devel corporation, in part crippled by the eight-round magazine they could not make reliable, ended in bankruptcy.

This ignorance (which is changing a bit), worked in his favor when he discovered Kelsey’s personal Browning Hi-Power because while others simply saw one more Browning, he recognized it instantly for what it was.

I mounted a new Leupold VX-3HD 3.5-10 x 50 CDS-ZL scope using Leupold’s QR 1 piece base and 1-inch rings. This was my first time using the quick release mounts and I was impressed with the ease of mounting and removing the scope. I must say that I put the BAR through a grueling test, but the VX-3 never showed any signs of shifting zero or performing any way other than what you would expect from Leupold.

The 175-178 gr loads followed the same trend. Black Hills Gold loaded with 175 gr Match King Bullets had a best of 0.473, and an average of 0.626. Hornady’s Precision Hunter produced an average of 0.813, and a best of 0.654. Let that sink in for a minute! That is unreal consistency for a hunting load! Not the first time we have seen that with the ELD-X bullets.I just received a new BAR that might change all that. Browning sent me a BAR MK 3 in Mossy Oak Break-Up Country in 308 Winchester to review. While it is an absolutely a pleasure to look at, it has a finish that you shouldn’t be afraid to carry in the woods. The Break-Up Country finish will help the hunter blend in with their surroundings much better and there are no shiny parts to reflect light and alert the deer to your presence. The new MK 3 uses a short stroke gas piston design to operate the action. This system is designed to reduce excessive carbon build up as well as reduce felt recoil. The multi-lug bolt and hammer forged barrel combined are designed to obtain the best accuracy in their class. The BAR MK 3 weighs 7 pounds and 5 ounces – just over half a pound lighter than the previous version. That is not a terrible thing when carrying a rifle all day.I believe the year was 1978 when my little brother showed up at the farm for the opening day of deer season with the most beautiful rifle that I had ever seen. It was a brand-new Browning BAR in 243 Winchester sporting a fancy scope. My 30-30 with open sights looked archaic beside it. The BAR was so pretty that I had to have one. Years later, I managed to get a BAR in 270 Winchester. Like my brother’s rifle, it was a beautiful piece of work and much more accurate than my friend’s semi-autos from a competitor, but it was so pretty I never hunted with it. The Walnut stock and deep bluing looked so nice I just didn’t want to put that first scratch on it.

While awaiting the arrival of the BAR I had time to assemble a wide selection of 308 Winchester ammunition to see how the MK 3 performed when put to the test. I ended up with ammo from Berger, Black Hills, Federal Premium, Hornady, and Remington. I had bullet weights of 150, 165, 168, 175, 178 as well as 185 grains, with a total of 14 different loads. It took several trips to the range to test all of these; oh well that is the price one must pay!With three samples of 165 gr ammo, each of them had groups of less than 1 inch. Remington’s new Core-Lokt Tipped had the best group at 0.640 as well as the best average at 1.03.

Did Browning stop making the BAR?

With the four samples of 150 gr ammo, every sample but one had at least one group under 1 inch. The old standby Remington Core-Lokt had the best group as well as the best overall average. The BAR MK 3’s 1 in 10 twist rate really seemed to like the heavier bullets. The three 168 gr loads I tried did quite well. Berger’s 168 gr Classic Hunter had four groups averaging 0.668 with a best group of 0.427. This was very consistent ammo! The Black Hills 168 gr Tipped Match King produced the tightest group of the test with an incredible 0.166. This is the best group that I have ever fired with a Semi-Auto using Factory loaded ammo! Day one at the range I zeroed in the scope and started the process of accuracy testing with the 150-gr ammo. Early in the process I found out that the BAR doesn’t like for its barrel to get dirty. By the time I had zeroed the rifle in and fired a few three shot groups, the groups had grown large enough that I thought something had come loose and I called it a day. Upon returning to my reloading room and checking the mounts I couldn’t find anything loose. I gave the barrel a good cleaning and discovered that the copper build up was quite extreme for the number of shots I had fired. I changed my procedure a little and would run a Bore Snake through the barrel after every couple three-shot groups. I limited my testing to 3 three-shot groups per trip. I would again give the barrel a thorough cleaning with Wipe-Out Bore Cleaner before returning to the range.Browning’s X-Bolt Max Long Range is a superbly accurate rifle with long-range bells and whistles. Suggested retail starts at $1,299.99 and ranges up to $1,359.99 depending on caliber, but it can usually be found on dealers’ shelves at around $1,000 to $1,100, again depending on caliber.

Also, the knurled knob that releases and secures the comb in position is reversible. That, in combination with the tang safety, makes the rifle quite comfortable for left-handed shooters.
