Many times, this right shift is 1.75u rather than the full 2.75u of a standard layout. In specific keyboards such as the Ducky One 2 SF and the Womier K66, the right shift is 2u.
With large keycap kits, it is possible to replace all of the keys. However, these kits are primarily available only in group buy or at a high price in the aftermarket. MaxKeyboards offers custom keycap layouts that you can design to match these sizes specifically.
When buying keycaps for ergo mechanical keyboards, be sure to check the keycaps. Oftentimes, a full-sized keycap set with different sized shift keys will be able to make the fit. It might look strange putting a shift on a spacebar key, but it’ll at least cover the space available.
Some people just replace the alphanumerics and leave the modifiers alone. If you look at the MaxKeyboards Keycap Compatibility and Size Chart, the bottom row of many Razer keyboards (not the Huntsman lineup) consist of 1.5u or 1u modifiers with a 6u spacebar. Corsair and Logitech have a similar layout, but they also include 1.25u modifiers in there as well and a 6.5u spacebar.
Jake has been an avid mechanical keyboard user for the past six years. He has a background in Mechanical Engineering and wants to apply his expertise to break down how mechanical keyboards and other tech work to show the world all of the cool aspects of the hobby.
These mechanical keyboards often have split spacebar modules on each side, which can hold different functions (space, shift, fn, etc) which means you’ll need to order keycaps with these unique sizes. When you’re looking for keycaps for these mechanical keyboards, there is often information on the size of each specific key because of the uniqueness of the design.Other keys to lookout for include the bottom right modifier keys. On some keyboards such as the Keychron K6, they are smaller to include room for the arrow cluster. Smaller mechanical keyboards tend to have more keys that allow you to change layers to access other functions. In this case, the K6 has a 1u Win, Fn1, and Fn2.On the product page, you can see the sizes specifically stated for the hot-swappable PCB and the solderable PCB. Depending on the options you choose, there is the option to do a split backspace, split left spacebar, and more.
These kits often enable you to pick and purchase an additional spacebars set. They also allow you to buy novelty keycaps, which often have a related symbol to the theme of the keycap set rather than a letter or number.
There are many vendors where you can check for keycaps and purchase them. We use the following resources to keep track of mechanical keyboard and keycap group buys:
What kind of keycaps does Ducky use?
【Compatibility】Ducky rubberized double-shot keycaps are compatible with all Ducky Keyboards and Cherry MX Switch Type mechanical keyboards.
For Mac keycaps, the possibilities are quite limited. KBDFans sells a PBT Mac Compatibility kit, and it offers the Option and Command keys in several different sizes. If you are looking for backlit Mac keycaps, there are two different options.Keyboards in this category include Keychron K2, K4, and K6. It also includes mechanical keyboards such as the Drop ALT, Akko 3068, Magicforce 82, Vortexgear Race 3, Drevo Excalibur, iQuinix F96, Leopold FC660M, Leopold FC980M, and more. Keyboards that have a more compact design such as 65%, 75%, or 96% layouts often have a smaller right shift to have room for the arrow cluster. These layouts are more unique and require different keycap sizes that differ from the standard layout. In addition, some of the keys will be on different rows, so the heights may be a little off if you are not using a uniform keycap profile. For example, ergo keyboards will often need 5 small stabilizers. The keycaps that go over those keys can vary. Oftentimes, with big group buy kits, you can pick an included ergo and spacebars kit to make sure that you have all of the keys you need. With all of the different mechanical keyboard sizes, it is difficult to find keycaps that will fit your keyboard. Some keyboards have smaller modifier keys, special right shift keys, weird spacebars, unique enter keys, and split backspace. The possibilities are endless. When looking for keycaps that will fit your mechanical keyboard, it is important to know what to look for. When looking at the different key designs you may find that a split spacebar or backspace may be what you want to go with. We’ll talk about how to find a keycap set that works with one of these designs.
Before we start digging into the nitty gritty details, it’s important to define how keycaps are measured. When referring to keycap sizes, 1u is the size of one alphanumeric key. 2u is double the size of 1u, which would be two normal keys smushed together. The measurements get a little more confusing as they get bigger, such as 6.25u: which means the keycaps are the same length as 6 normal sized keys, plus an additional quarter of a key.
You can check if a keycap set will fit your mechanical keyboard by checking the layout of your keyboard, knowing the size of special keys such as space, shift, backspace, enter, and the bottom row keys such as Ctrl, Alt, Win, and Fn. Some keyboards need extra keys or smaller keys than a standard layout. These keycaps can be easier to find and fit than split spacebars. Many keycap sets come with ISO-compatible keys. For the split backspace, finding a 1.5u backspace may be difficult. However, changing the backspace to two 1u keys (probably delete and another key) is easy since those keys already come in a standard set.
Is Ducky keycaps good?
Excellent typing quality. These keyboards usually come with lightly textured PBT keycaps that feel great on the fingertips. The keys are stable and well-spaced, so Ducky keyboards have one of the best-feeling typing experiences on an out-of-the-box unit.
When buying pre built mechanical keyboards from these companies, be wary of the keycap sizes if you plan on replacing the keycaps in the future with different aesthetics. Many companies use non-standard bottom rows in their keyboard designs. The reason is unknown, but it makes finding fitting keycap sets and replacing the keycaps quite difficult. On many custom mechanical keyboards, you have the option to have a split spacebar or not. Having a split spacebar enables you to add keys that you press often such as Shift or FN to a space that is accessible by one of your thumbs. Some examples of mechanical keyboards with a standard layout include: Razer Huntsman TE, Ducky One 2 Mini, Anne Pro 2, Durgod Taurus K320 TKL, HyperX Alloy Origins Core, Keychron K8, Kemove Snowfox/Shadow, Drop CTRL, and more.
Do all keycaps fit all keyboards?
You can check if a keycap set will fit your mechanical keyboard by checking the layout of your keyboard, knowing the size of special keys such as space, shift, backspace, enter, and the bottom row keys such as Ctrl, Alt, Win, and Fn. Some keyboards need extra keys or smaller keys than a standard layout.
To check if a new set of keycaps will fit your keyboard, you should check if your keyboard is in the standard layout, or else you may run into some issues. When people refer to a standard layout, they mean the key sizes of the full-sized, tenkeyless, or 60% mechanical keyboard. When looking at this infographic from our Keyboard Size Guide, you can see how consistent the key sizes are for the 60%, full-size, and tenkeyless layouts. When checking if your keyboard is standard layout, you mainly need to look at the bottom row key sizes. For the standard layout, the bottom row keys are typically 1.25u, and the spacebar is typically 6.25u. Before buying a keycap set, always double check the keycap sizes.
There are some full-sized mechanical keyboards by companies such as Razer, Logitech, and Corsair where the bottom row is referred to as “non-standard.” This means that it does not fit the sizes listed above and needs specially sized keycaps. Keyboard.University has a super easy to use printable keycap ruler that you can print out and then match your keycaps on top to see what size they are.An ergonomic keyboard is great for those who want to type in a ergonomic and safe way for their bodies, but unfortunately, they do make buying a new set of keycaps quite difficult. Ergo layouts refer to mechanical keyboards that are split such as Alice-style layouts, the ErgoDox, Corne, X-Bows, and more. A split left shift often fits ISO layout mechanical keyboards. For an in-depth explanation of ANSI vs ISO keyboard layouts, see this article we wrote here. When using left shift, your pinky finger may not need all of that space. In many languages, additional letters or symbols are needed and thus can be fit in that area. Finding budget keycap sets for this is difficult. These keycaps are often available in only custom keycap sets sold during group buys, such as GMK, JTK, ePBT, etc.
Similar to split spacebars, sometimes custom mechanical keyboard PCBs allow you to split the backspace and then use the backslash key as backspace instead. This is useful for reaching backspace easier or to include delete into a compact keyboard that doesn’t have those keys.
A super unique functionality is that you’re able to play a few games on the keyboard itself. There is an option to play minesweeper or a gambling style game. If you’re interested, I recommend trying it out.
Coming in a high-quality PBT double-shot plastic design, these are longer-lasting than the usual keycaps that you’ll find on your old crusty Dell keyboard.
Being able to easily swap out the switches with no soldering required is great for those who want to test different switch options and find the perfect feel.
Simply follow the steps in the user manual to change up the options. The macro programming is a very powerful aspect of this keyboard and offers a lot in terms of a better user experience.
The extra keycaps made my mind jump with the possibility of a customized design. Being able to configure the keyboard to your own preferences is awesome.
Is Ducky One 2 full hot-swappable?
Unfortunately, the Ducky One 2 Mini is not hot-swappable. You are stuck with whatever switches you order the keyboard with, so choose wisely. While many would consider this a bad thing, hot-swappable keyboards typically don’t last as long as soldered keyboards.
Instead of the usual black-on-black color, the stabilizers have a blue housing and gray stem. This color jumps out at you and shows the eye for detail that Ducky has.
Coming loaded down with awesome features such as RGB lighting, extremely powerful firmware, customizable PBT keycaps, and a beautiful case design – I was hooked.
The debounce time refers to how long the keyboard waits before sending another signal. Mechanical keyboards typically have a debounce time of 10ms, but your able to drop it down to 5ms if you choose to do so.
The keycaps also have sub-legends written on the front that correspond to each of the functions available on the lower layer. This is very helpful for when you want to access these commands.
Overall, the keycaps that the Ducky One 2 Mini provides are made of high-quality material, durable, and they are well designed and thought out. The legends are made of a simple font, which deem the keyboard appropriate for everybody and not just gamers.
Compared to many new mechanical keyboards, the Ducky One 2 Mini seems to be lacking in features such as hot-swappability, wireless capabilities, and Mac/Windows compatibility.
The Ducky One 2 Mini has no software to download. However, you can do everything you want to from recording macros to changing the per-key RGB lighting using key combinations on the keyboard itself. More about customizing lighting will be in the Lighting section down below.
It is possible to buy this prebuilt already with their ABS doubleshot keycaps and Gateron/Kailh switches for around the same price as the One 2 Mini here on Amazon. We still recommend getting a Ducky One 2 Mini, as you can’t beat the detailed programming and design, but the keyboard is really starting to show its age. Ducky provides a few useful tools such as a keycap puller and a dust cover which makes changing out the keycaps and protecting the keyboard from accumulating dust a breeze. The colors can be adjusted via using FN + Alt + Z/X/C to cycle through different levels of red, blue, and green brightness to pick the color that you want. Each color has 10 levels. The keyboard has a unique two-color appearance and comes with eye-catching accessories such as a stylized spacebar in the zodiac year and some extra keycaps in a random color.
Switch and Click is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, Glorious PC Gaming Race affiliate program, and the Creator Program for Mechanicalkeyboards.com.
The mounting plate of most keyboards is aluminum to ensure a sturdy build and to reduce flex. It would’ve been nice if the Ducky One 2 Mini also had an aluminum plate.
OEM-profile keycaps are a sculpted keycap profile, which means that the height varies between different rows, and it is designed to decrease the distance you need to stretch your fingers when typing and gaming. The One 2 Mini also stores profiles for macros and RGB completely on the board itself, so you don’t have to have any specific software open to use all of your personalized functions. The lighting effects can be controlled completely on the keyboard itself through its firmware. With the white backplate, the lights bounce back up, shining the side-printed legends as well cleanly through the doubleshot keycaps. Another way to edit the RGB effects is through per key customization. This involves a series of steps, but after doing it once, it’s not all too complicated. The secondary layer and RGB lighting are not intuitive to use, so we highly recommend getting the user’s manual to test out all of the different functions. The fourth DIP switch changes between standard mode and display mode. By default, it is turned on standard mode. Standard mode means that the keyboard works like a keyboard. In display mode, typing on it and pressing buttons does nothing. It displays all of the RGB lighting on spectrum cycling. Kailh Speed Pro Burgundy is a speed switch as well. It is a linear switch that has less actuation and total distance than typical Cherry switches. However, it is a slightly heavier linear than Cherry MX Red.
The Ducky One 2 Mini is unable to be used with Mac, even for typing only. When I plugged it into my Macbook, it did not get past recognizing the keyboard.
The Ducky One 2 Mini can still be worth it if you put build quality, customizable keycaps, and programmable layers above all else, but if you want wireless, hot-swappable, or Windows/Mac compatibility, check out some other product offerings. In the age where people want to be able to swap out their switches without desoldering and type wirelessly while changing between their Window’s computer and Apple iPad, the Ducky One 2 Mini is starting to show its weaknesses.
With software, things can be easily changed through some mouse clicks. With the firmware, you have to learn the firmware and button combinations and different methods to change what you want to.
Can you replace Ducky keycaps?
It. And pull up remove it and just put those back. On. That’s it guys pretty simple stuff uh i guess we can go ahead and do one of these middle ones while we’re. Here. So they just pull off.
As explained in the manual, it starts off by holding a series of keys to turn on edit mode. After that, you have two different profiles to pick from (1 and 2).The extra keycaps that come with the keyboard are also doubleshot, shinethrough PBT. The additional keycaps are: enter, backspace, two logo keys, arrows for I/J/K/L, and the Zodiac year spacebar.Even if you were to change out the keycaps, it would be easy because the Ducky One 2 Mini has a standard 60% layout with no surprises in keycap sizing.
However, because of the growth of the mechanical keyboard offerings and innovation, Ducky does need to update some of their features to compete with the competitors.
The design is a bezel design without floating keycaps. Even if you just throw this keyboard into your bag or backpack, it’s unlikely that a keycap will rattle its way off of a switch. This can occur on other boards that do have a floating keycap design.
The Cherry MX options are black, brown, blue, silver, red, and silent red (for an additional few dollars). The Kailh switch options are BOX white, speed copper, and speed pro burgundy.
Are Ducky keycaps swappable?
All standard Ducky One 3 mechanical keyboards are hot-swappable and feature Kailh’s hot-swap sockets. Colored in a vibrant yellow, Kailh sockets are chosen for their impressive reliability.
Betty has been using mechanical keyboards since 2014. She has experience as a pediatric occupational therapist and helped start Switch and Click to learn more as well as help people enter the mechanical keyboard hobby and learn more about peripherals as a whole. That being said, the keyboard still has knockout features such as doubleshot PBT keycaps, a detachable USB-C cable, highly customizable keys and macros with firmware to boot, variety of options of Cherry MX switches, and a sleek and clean design.
We received our spacebar in the Year of the Rat edition, but to be completely honest, we thought it was a rabbit until we looked up the Zodiac calendar. The One 2 Mini almost has a floating keycap design, but the shallow bezel around the edge of the keyboard says otherwise. Overall, the One 2 Mini looks quite nice and we enjoy the aesthetic design.
The Shadow/Snowfox is a 60% mechanical keyboard that has doubleshot, shinethrough PBT keycaps. They are not as nice-looking as the Ducky One 2 Mini’s, though.
The RGB does have 15+ preset effects, but there is no per-key lighting editing that you can do. This keyboard sits under the price of the Ducky One 2 Mini as well. Many gamers prefer to flip the spacebar for the better feel, but with the Zodiac spacebar, it will reverse the lettering and design on the spacebar, which can be a turn off to some. However, there are more budget-friendly mechanical keyboards that offer what the Ducky offers and more (with the exception of the fancy spacebar and strong onboard firmware). The Ducky One 2 Mini remains one of the top 60% mechanical keyboards to this day. The keyboard set the standard for compact keyboards when it was released and only just now the competition is starting to get an edge on them.
The primary feature of the Ducky One 2 Mini is that it has very powerful firmware. It doesn’t require any software to record macros and change RGB effects. This can be a downside though because this process can be a steep learning curve.
The second DIP switch switches between N-key rollover and 6-key rollover. There aren’t many reasons to go to 6-key rollover. N-key rollover means that you can press a bunch of keys at once, and your keyboard will register them accurately. This keyboard sits at just under $90 in most places. If you are interested in checking out this keyboard, see it here on Amazon for an affordable price.
The GMMK Compact is also a 60% mechanical keyboard. It is more budget-friendly if you choose the barebones option (which comes with no keycaps or switches). For many, soldering/desoldering is not feasible due to the equipment and time required to do so. For that reason we recommend trying out the following mods where soldering is not required.
Can you change keycaps on Ducky One 2 Mini?
And I’m gonna show you guys how to take off a key cap you guys get this little. I don’t know if you guys can see it that was this little key cap thingy that comes with the actual keyboard.
Overall, this keyboard has some of the best lighting customization options I’ve seen. Without software, it can do per-key editing with no problems at all. It has the special feature of storing up to 2 custom color profiles onboard as well. The switches cannot be seen from the side, which looks sleek, which also allows you to not see any dust and hair that fall into the crevices. However, when dust and hair do fall in, it will be a bit harder to clean up.
This keyboard has hot-swappable sockets, Bluetooth 5.1, and Windows/Mac compatibility. It also comes with a dust cover and a keycap puller. It comes with a variety of different Gateron switch options, which are known to be really smooth switches.
The keycaps have clean legends with solid letters. Most cheaply made doubleshot keycaps will have spaces in the lettering to save on manufacturing costs, but Ducky opted for the higher-end design. This is a vast variety of switch options, and there is an option for everybody and their needs, whether it be gaming, typing, productivity, or anything computer-related.
The GMMK has a detachable cable. However, it’s with USB mini rather than USB-C. The keyboard has RGB and a floating keycap style design. The case is half aluminum and half plastic, but the keyboard has quite a bit of heft in it due to additional weights in the bottom casing.
As mentioned before, although the Ducky One 2 Mini is still an awesome keyboard, it does lack some much-needed features. Here are a few alternative options we recommend.Due to its small size, design, and detachable cable, the Ducky One 2 Mini is extremely easy to carry around to other places, whether it be tournaments, a friend’s house, school, library, or coffee shop.
This keyboard has hot-swappable sockets, Bluetooth 5.1, and compatibility with Mac and Windows via the flip of a switch. It comes with a braided USB-C cable, and extra keycaps for Mac. PBT plastic is generally rougher and less prone to shine than ABS plastic keycaps. Big brand prebuilt mechanical keyboards typically come with ABS plastic keycaps, which attract oils quickly and feel smooth to the touch. Kailh BOX White is a clicky switch that uses the clickbar mechanism to produce its click. This means that it clicks on the way up and the way down, and it is a very crispy and clean click. Box switches are also dustproof and waterproof due to their design.Another easy method is to press FN + Alt + Spacebar, which shows you the color palette. Each key will glow a different color, press the key associated to the color that you want to change to that color.

What keycaps do Ducky One 2 Mini use?
That being said, the keyboard still has knockout features such as doubleshot PBT keycaps, a detachable USB-C cable, highly customizable keys and macros with firmware to boot, variety of options of Cherry MX switches, and a sleek and clean design.
Hej Robin!
Is Ducky better than Corsair?
Side-by-Side Comparison The Ducky One 2 is better than Corsair K70 RAPIDFIRE for the most part. The Ducky is available in a variety of switches and with full RGB backlighting, is better-built, and has a detachable USB-C cable. However, the Corsair has dedicated software and comes with a wrist rest.
However, Ducky’s keyboards are a bit more versatile thanks to their switch options and typing experience, making them a better choice if you’re looking for one keyboard for both working and gaming. However, Razer keyboards have software for in-depth customization, while only a few Ducky models have companion software that only allows you to adjust the RGB backlighting. You can see our recommendations for the best Razer keyboards here.Overall, Ducky produces highly customizable keyboards, and you can purchase them in several color variants, giving your gaming setup a unique aesthetic. They have outstanding typing quality, which is great if you also want to use them for the office, and they’re very well-made. These qualities all but guarantee that you can find a Ducky keyboard that suits your needs.Keychron has an extensive lineup of mechanical keyboards in different form factors, switch types, and layouts. They have many more models available than Ducky. They’re more productivity-focused and feature wireless connection options, while Ducky keyboards are wired-only models designed primarily for gaming. You can check our recommendations for the best Keychron keyboards here.
Is Ducky better than HyperX?
Side-by-Side Comparison However, the HyperX isn’t as good as the Ducky at color mixing. If you don’t like the feel of linear switches, the Ducky is a better choice since it’s available in a variety of Cherry MX, Gateron, and Kailh switches.
Jan 17, 2023: We’ve confirmed all our choices are in stock and remain the best picks for each category, and we’ve added a new segment with information on how Ducky keyboards compare to those from Keychron. We’ve also adjusted some of our phrasings and made some minor tweaks for clarity. Sep 19, 2022: Overhauled article to better reflect the current Ducky lineup of products and align with user expectations. Updated the compared to sections for relevance and added a new ”con” about purchasing availability. At a mid-range price point, we recommend the Ducky One 3. This keyboard comes in a variety of expressive colorways as well as several sizes, including a (60%) and TKL (80%), both of which are great for gaming. There’s also a full-size (100%) classic model if you require a Numberpad. As an improvement over our best pick, the Ducky Shine 7, this keyboard has improved latency for even more responsive in-game performance. It also has a hot-swappable circuit board, so you can change the stock switches by simply popping them out with the included switch puller and replacing them with your preferred switches to customize your typing experience.Shine Series: The Shine series is Ducky’s flagship product line, with a zinc alloy top case and shine-through keycaps. They’re available in many colorways and with various Cherry MX switch types, but only in a full-size form factor.
Mecha Series: Ducky’s Mecha series is similar to the One series, but they feature an aluminum case instead of the latter’s plastic body, yielding a more premium feel. They’re available with several different Cherry MX switch options, colorways, and in compact (65%) or (60%) form factors.
Logitech’s range of products is significantly wider than Ducky’s, as Logitech makes budget-friendly scissor-switch boards, high-end mechanical gaming units, and everything in between. Logitech also makes wireless units, while Ducky only makes wired-only keyboards. That said, while similar across models, Ducky’s keyboards have higher build quality as they use PBT keycaps, and their keyboards rarely suffer from deck flex. If you’d like to compare the brands’ offerings, check out our recommendations for the best Logitech keyboards here.If you want to spend a little less, we recommend the Ducky One 2 Mini V1. While it may be an older model, it’s far from obsolete. This compact unit has even better latency than the newer Ducky One 2 Mini V2, though not quite as low as the latency on our mid-range pick, the Ducky One 3, so it isn’t as well-suited to competitive, reaction-based games. Still, it’s perfectly fine for casual gaming or regular productivity tasks. Like the other keyboards in this list, this one still offers the same solid build quality and provides a satisfying typing experience. Despite its compact size, it doesn’t feel cramped to type on since the keys are very well-spaced.Ducky manufactures gaming peripherals with its primary focus on mechanical keyboards. Their keyboards are highly customizable, and you can purchase them in various switch types from popular manufacturers, including Cherry MX, Gateron, TTC, and Kailh. Ducky keyboards stand out against the competition with their unique and colorful aesthetics, often including Chinese zodiac-branded spacebars. Most of their keyboards have very similar features and are available in various sizes, from 60% compact to full-sized variants. However, Ducky lags behind other companies in terms of dedicated software, as they’ve only recently released software to customize the RGB lighting but lack software that allows for more thorough customizations like macro programming or key remapping.
One Series: Ducky’s One series is a mainstay in their lineup, with higher-numbered models indicating a newer generation model. They’re available with a wide range of Cherry MX switch types, colorways and in full-size, TKL, or compact (65%) and (60%) form factors. The standout feature of this keyboard is its versatility. Its latency is incredibly low and well-suited to competitive games, making this a great choice if you want one keyboard for both work and play. It’s also one of the few units from Ducky to have dedicated companion software. While this software is limited to changing the RGB backlighting, it still offers more in-depth customization than hotkeys. However, while many keyboards in Ducky’s lineup have a hot-swappable circuit board, the Shine 7 doesn’t. You’ll likely want to find a variant of the board with your preferred switch style since changing the switches requires you to take apart the keyboard, de-solder the old switches, and resolder new ones.Zero Series: The Zero series is the entry-level product line in Ducky’s lineup. Zero models are cheaper than the One Series keyboards, but that’s reflected in their inferior build quality and non-detachable USB cable.Other major companies, like Razer and Logitech, have bigger lineups than Ducky. However, you know what you’re getting with a Ducky keyboard since most are similar; they’re all well-built, and quality control is excellent. Ducky offers more customization options in terms of aesthetics and switch types. If you don’t mind the lack of dedicated software, Ducky’s options are as good as the competition’s.
However, the downside to its smaller size is that it doesn’t have dedicated volume keys, arrow keys, or a navigational cluster. This means it might not be a great option if you work with spreadsheets and data entry, but it’s great if you’re a casual gamer who wants more space freed up on your desk for mouse movements.
May 04, 2022: Replaced the Ducky One 2 RGB TKL with the Ducky One 3 as ’Best Ducky Keyboard For Gaming’ as the One 3 has better latency and is more readily available.
